In 1971, the Baker family opened a small convenience store & a tire changing room on Sugar Hill Road, just outside of Marion. Father, George Baker, & sons, Paul & George Jr. each had a share. Later, Dad Baker turned the business over to the sons. Gas was pumped & windshields were cleaned for the customers in those days. As the tire & store business grew, the market was expanding & other bays and lifts were added to the garage. In 1981, Paul & Francis Baker bought out brother George, Jr. & managed the market and garage six days a week. When sons, Ivan & Nathan, were old enough they began helping after school & on Saturdays. The business grew & eventually outgrew the location, so plans were made to build a new automotive shop separate from the market. In 2008, the new shop opened just down the street. The new shop made it possible to accommodate more customers & add alignments & front end work, along with A/C work & to increase the brake jobs & routine maintenance!
