From the Tulsa World: “Hello, chicken-fried!”If you were born and raised here, those words probably served up memories of Nelson’s Buffeteria, Tulsa’s downhome, deep-fried culinary landmark for 75 years. Nelson Rogers Sr. first opened his restaurant in 1929 at Fourth Street and Boulder Avenue before making the move to 514 S. Boston Ave., where he served breakfast and lunch. The latter meal was Nelson’s finger-lickin’ forte, when hungry folks would start streaming in around 11 a.m. Sometimes, a line would back up and out the door. One good reason: That lovingly battered chicken-fried steak, arguably one of the city’s best-kept secrets.
