As we celebrate 10 years leading tours in Asheville, NC, we reflect back on all the changes and growth. Chris Ortwein opened the first food tour in Asheville under the name, Asheville Food Tours in 2008 with a dream of a fun retirement business. A very successful entrepreneur, Chris was no stranger to business ownership. He had the vision of pairing the best food the city had to offer with visitors and locals looking for that great food. The idea? Walk people around this beautiful city, talk about the rich history, and stop and eat...a lot! After they went on the tour, they could return to their favorite spots during the rest of their stay. Well, it worked! Chris decided to actually retire after 6 years and Patrick “Paddy” Riels became the Operations Manger and tour guide. What started as a couple tours a week has grown into daily tours and hundreds of 5 star rave reviews. Our most recent and exciting addition is our newest Tour Manager, Superstar Stu Helm. Stu has brought a creative dynamic to this business; his vision, appreciation of great food, and love of Asheville make him a perfect partner.
