Carl Fisher first established the Caribbean Club in 1938 as a "poor man's retreat". About eight years later, the Caribbean Club became famous as a filming location for the Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall movie "Key Largo". Ruth Whitehurst bought the bar in 1963 and it has stayed in the family ever since. The Caribbean Club is now a locals watering hole known for its laid back attitude and live music. The bar's walls are covered in Bogie and Bacall memorabilia as well as local fishing pictures. The Caribbean Club overlooks the Florida Bay and is an excellent location to watch the unique Key's sunsets.
