The building was originally Engine Company No. 6 of the Rochester Fire Department. Using horse-drawn steam engines, this firehouse was important during the "Era of the Horses" from 1886 to 1921. The firehouse was eventually decommissioned and without use, fell into disrepair during the middle of the 20th century.
