MP Demetre Jewelers

In 1960, Milton Peter Demetre, a young Air Force Officer at the time, founded American Metals Company which specialized in the purchase of Precious Metals (Gold, Silver, and Platinum) from small jewelry stores around the country. American Metals Company was a pioneering company in the quick and efficient purchasing of Precious Metals, and soon became one of the most respected companies in the industry.In 1980, with the knowledge and experience he had gained over the years about jewelry from operating American Metals Company, Milton Demetre also decided to open a retail jewelry store. He bought and renovated a beautiful historic old bank building at 253 King Street, Charleston, SC, and opened M.P. Demetre Jewelers. He also moved the offices of American Metals Company to this building. M.P. Demetre Jewelers became one of Charleston’s most respected and popular stores and is today a nationally known luxury jewelry store with loyal and satisfied customers from every area of the country. American Metals Company and M.P. Demetre Jewelers continue to be operated and run daily by Milton Demetre, his wife, Virginia, and son, Peter Melton Demetre.
