Established in 1963.Gale Street Inn started as a small tavern near the corner of Milwaukee Ave and Gale St, by George and Joan Chioles. Louie Artis, a Gale Street cook, told Chioles he had a great recipe for baby back ribs. The 20-table tavern wound up with lines out the door. The ribs proved so popular that when the city took the property in the summer of 1968 to build the Jefferson Park Transit Center, a local bank tried to block the Chioles family from purchasing the land where the Gale Street Inn now sits because of traffic concerns. The Mundelein location opened on Diamond Lake Road in 1975. An electrical fire destroyed the place, leading to the construction of a new Gale Street Inn Diamond Lake in 1977. The Chioles family sold the Chicago restaurant in 1985 but continued operating the Mundelein location, which moved across the street on Diamond Lake Road in 2002.Unfortunately, George and Joan Chioles passed away in 2011. However, their children are still running Gale Street with great pride.
