It is a technique developed in Germany, a treatment for Lymphedema, which is an accumulation of fluid that can occur after lymph nodes are removed during surgery, most often a mastectomy for breast cancer. But also can be removed from any part of the body. This also means if the lymph nodes are biopsied or radiated. Whenever the nodes have been biopsied, radiated or removed you are at risk for developing lymphedema. Lymphedema can also be present at birth or develop at puberty or during adulthood. This type is called primary lymphedema. Lymphatic Massage helps to prevent and or manage the lymphedema depending on which stage the lymphedema is at.
