An appraisal is an authorized document you receive from a trusted jewelry appraiser like Madalyn. The document describes the item(s) of jewelry being valued and gives the value that the item should be insured for. The appraisal describes the item in full detail, i.e. measurements, weight, color, clarity, and metal type as well as any other analyzable facts. If the item were to be lost or stolen the insurance company will use the appraisal as proof of ownership to replace the item at the value stated. Keep in mind, the values stated on insurance appraisals is not a resale value and therefore the figure is not an indication of the price you should receive if you were to resell it. Values given on insurance appraisals is the "Retail Replacement Value" only.
