Opened May 18th 2013 by Chef Shane Viele. Chef Viele has been in the restaurant business for over 15 years and the Viele name has been in the restaraunt business all over Springfield for close to a century. After spending 10 years at Saputo's Italian Restaurant, a downtown staple since 1948, he decided to open his own restaurant on the downtown square of Springfield, Illinois. Mangia was named Best New Restaurant in 2014 by Downtown Springfield Inc. and has grown to be one of the top Italian restaurants in the Central Region of Illinois.
