New Heart Center for Wellness, Fitness and Cardiac Rehabilitation

New Heart was created in 1972 by Dr. Richard Lueker and his colleagues as a way to explore the concept that health cannot be delivered through a prescription drug or an operation alone. Health depends not just on fixing the plumbing, but also on improving the processes that occur in our bodies at the physical, mental and emotional levels. Recognizing that primary prevention is an important part of keeping society healthy, New Heart offers a fitness center open to anyone interested in a healthy lifestyle along with caregivers of heart patients. New Heart has implemented a series of group fitness programs including yoga, tai chi, qi gong, and stretching classes. New Heart also participates in the Medicare-funded Silver Sneakers program. And as part of its continuing mission, New Heart has conducted a number of community outreach projects aimed at reducing the impact of heart disease in underserved children and minorities.
