In 1903, the Omaha Grain Exchange was formed to provide an organized market for buyers and sellers in the prospering agricultural area. In 1986, the Exchange was dissolved, but there was still a need for an inspection service.
Long time employee and chief inspector Richard Probst and his wife Darlene decided to purchase the inspection aspect of the Exchange. They incorporated in October of 1986 forming Omaha Grain Inspection Service, Inc. (OGIS) and started serving customers in Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa.
In 1998, brothers Brian and Bruce Probst took over the day to day operations of OGIS. Brian’s son Mitchell joined the team in 2009 becoming a 4th generation grain inspector. Brian’s wife Mindy joined the OGIS team in 2011. Following the passing of Bruce in 2013, Brian became the sole owner and CEO of OGIS and Mindy became the Official Agency Manager.
The OGIS team is currently 20 members strong with 8 inspectors, 6 samplers, 3 office administrators and 2 technicians in addition to Brian and Mindy.
