One of my first teachers told me many (alright, many many) years ago, "People come to us when they've experienced bad relationships. Don't give them yet another one". I've tried to follow that wise advice by making sure that every client I see feels completely heard and, more important, understood. My job is to help you say everything you want to say, but haven't been able to. The goal is to help you see more clearly what steps you may want to take to solve your challenges. Emotional issues can feel insurmountable. Friends and family can give you free advice, but a good therapist will avoid that trap, and instead help you find your own voice and your own answers. I have many years of experience doing exactly that.
