Meet Sommalay aka Lay or like a lot of people like to call her….. MAMA! She’s had a thing for cooking ever since she was a little wee kiddo. She learned a lot from just sitting and eating with random people, even those that were less fortunate. She steadily started learning all about Laos food and the culture behind it. Self-taught chef, she came to America around the 1980s with barely anything to her name and not a clue of how to speak English. Finding work in corporate America and slowly got used to life here in the US. Single mother for most of her life, she struggled, and pushed through. Getting her start by cooking for co-workers, friends, and catering to a few parties. After many years, and meeting the right partner, she finally decided to start her lifelong dream of owning her own restaurant. Thus, SBT Lao Thai Cuisine was born.
