Originally opened in 1995, The Oaks Golf Club started as a semi-private club. At that time, the had substantial initiation fees, and expensive memberships. The thought at the time was that the surrounding subdivision would draw golfers from around the area. As the economy weakened, and attendance and membership went down, the Club transitioned to a public course. The Oaks Golf Course sits on 147 beautiful acres. It is a unique and challenging par 72 layout and is unlike any other golf course in the area. The 18 hole layout meanders through the hills and the fairways are both challenging and picturesque. The Fairways are Bermuda, and the Greens are Bengal Bent Grass. The greens at The Oaks are widely recognized as some of the best in a 100 mile radius. Since it’s inception, The Oaks has had it’s ups and downs. However, under the new ownership, drainage issues have largely been fixed, irrigation issues have been repaired, and now the course can get as much water as it needs throughout the year. Cart paths were initially designed to be “minimal and non-invasive” throughout the course. They have been expanded over the years and plans are underway for a more permanent solution for the all cart paths. Until that day arrives, The Oaks will continue to maintain the paths so that they are safe and useable. After years of neglect, the Fairways are coming back and get better each year. Sadly, no direct maintenance like fertilizers or repairs had been done to the fairways for about 5 years. Tee boxes suffered as well. The Oaks staff has been systematically repairing all areas of the course. At various times throughout it’s history, The Oaks has served as the home golf course of the Russell Boys Golf Team, the Raceland Boys Golf Team, and the Greenup Girls Golf Team. The Oaks has a Practice Range capable of handling shots with all clubs. There are a number of developed housing lots around The Oaks Golf Course and they are reasonably priced and vary in size from about .5 acre, up to about 1.5 acres. There is also other land available in and around the course that could be developed. These lots are negotiable in both size and cost. If you’re looking to move into a Golf Community, then look no further than The Oaks Golf Course. The Oaks Golf Club changed ownership in November 2012, and re-opened as The Oaks Golf Course. Since that time, club memberships have increased consistently each year. Don’t miss the boat. Before you spend another cent at your current golf course, see why people are coming back to The Oaks. If you haven’t been to The Oaks Golf Course lately, it’s time to give it another try! You won’t be disappointed.
