Founded in 1890, Thompson’s Store on Main Street in downtown Saluda is proudly continuing its tradition of being the oldest grocery store in North Carolina. In addition to offering a unique, old fashioned shopping experience in a lovingly restored building on the National Register of Historic Places, Thompson’s Store sells fresh produce, gourmet foods, deli items, homemade frozen meals, North Carolina jams and honeys and sauces, fine wines, craft beers, household staples and hand-cut selections from our in-house meat market – including our signature Charlie’s Sage Sausage. Thompson’s also has T-shirts, hats and other merchandise celebrating Saluda’s annual Coon Dog Day as well as other gift items including the “Saluda Mountain Memories” music CD. The album features songs inspired by Thompson’s Store, Saluda and the Blue Ridge Mountains with the musical talents of J. Larry Keith and other top-notch bluegrass musicians.
