Prior to founding Union Bar & Kitchen, Jonathan Renert was a Managing Director for the Japanese Equity Sales team at Jefferies & Co. and before that, Merrill Lynch. Jonathan, or Jon, started his career at Salomon Brothers as a Japanese Property Analyst. Although Jon has spent the majority of his 20-year career on Wall Street and the streets of Tokyo, Jon always knew there was something more to life than the dollar or the Yen. He knew the old joke, "how you do you make a billion yen?": "Start a restaurant with 10 billion yen," didn't apply to him. To the chagrin of his partners and clients, Jon has set out to prove them wrong with the saying, "do what you love and you will always be successful.
