Established in 1960, York Shotokan Mixed Martial Arts is the oldest martail arts school in York County, Pennsylvania. The school has its roots in traditional Shotokan style karate, however the program blends elements of Judo, Hapkido, Kung Fu, Grappling and other fighting disciplines to create a well rounded martial arts curriculum. Chief instructor, Sensei Tony Abel 7th dan, has been training in the martial arts since 1972. Sensei Abel brings years of martial arts training and experience with a notable background that includes being a defensive tactics instructor for law enforcement and security personnel; former instructor for the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office Bureau of Narcotics; a Pennsylvania State Police Certified Lethal Weapons Instructor; an impressive National and International competitive fighting career; and, is President of the International Martial Arts College USA. Sensei Abel and his senior instructors each share a dedication to helping the students of York Shotokan Mixed Martial Arts, believing that "The ultimate aim of Karate lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of the character of the participant" (Gichin Funakoshi).
