In 1927, Dr. Theodore Richards, former Principal of Kamehameha Schools, envisioned a community center where people of all races could come together as "one blood" or "kokokahi". In a time when it was the custom for communities to be segregated by race, Kokokahi was an unprecedented effort to breakdown racial barriers. The YWCA national commitment to eliminating racism is in close harmony with Dr. Richard's vision and ensures our programs and services are inclusive and mindful of the dignity of others. Kokokahi offers the whole family a place to participate in educational and recreational activities with access to over 11 acres of waterfront property, an event hall with functional kitchen and dining area, a pool with locker rooms, beautiful open fields, multiple classrooms, an overnight lodge, cabins, and tent camping.
